La investigación sobre aprendizaje-servicio ha ido creciendo y expandiéndose en todo el mundo. Si bien gran parte del trabajo inicial se llevó a cabo en los EE. UU. Y Europa, estos esfuerzos se han desarrollado en Asia durante las últimas décadas. El uso del término ‘aprendizaje-servicio’ no fue popular, mientras que el uso de la participación comunitaria, el voluntariado y los servicios sociales son más comunes entre los profesionales comunitarios y académicos, con el rápido desarrollo del aprendizaje-servicio, tanto de investigación como de programas comunitarios. han ido creciendo en toda Asia durante la última década. Uno de los principales movimientos en esa parte del mundo ha sido la Service-Learning Asia Network (iniciada en 2005), donde más de 11 países se han unido para compartir sus esfuerzos colectivamente a través de conferencias y revistas. En este nuevo libro tenemos ejemplos de cinco (5) lugares diferentes: China, Singapur, Hong Kong, Indonesia e India. Estos modelos siguen una publicación reciente de una investigación asiática que se encuentra en el Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning, publicado en el verano de 2019 después de la séptima conferencia regional de Asia-Pacífico sobre aprendizaje-servicio en Singapur.

Service-learning research has been growing and expanding around the world. While much of the early work was carried out in the US and Europe, such efforts have been developing in Asia for the past few decades. The use of the term, ‘service-learning’ was not popular, while use of community engagement, volunteerism, social services are more common among community practitioners and academics, with the rapid development of service-learning, both research and community-based programs have been growing throughout Asia over the last decade. One of the major movements in that part of the world has been the Service-Learning Asia Network (started in 2005), where more than 11 countries have unified to share their efforts collectively through conferences and journals. In this new book we have examples from five (5) different places: China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and India. These models follow a recent publication of Asian research found in the Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning, published in Summer 2019 after the 7th Asia Pacific Regional Service-Learning conference in Singapore.
